Renewing the Road Ahead at I-80/I-215

Horrocks provided public engagement services during the design and construction of the Utah Department of Transportation’s (UDOT) I-80/I-215 Renewed project, which was a large-scale, high-profile project that included widening eastbound I-80, improving I-80 and I-215, and reconstructing four bridges.

The project required extensive coordination to prepare interstate travelers, nearby residents, businesses, and other stakeholders for significant construction impacts and activities. Horrocks focused on making technical information accessible and providing clear, timely communications for traffic shifts, road closures, Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) bridge slides, and other major milestones.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

Horrocks developed both public involvement and crisis communications plans and led stakeholder outreach, media coordination, construction communications, and campaign reporting.

The team translated technical traffic phasing, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), cross sections, and engineering plans into public-friendly maps, flyers, mailers, door hangers, and other collateral. Aerial photography and video, targeted outreach campaigns, and media events communicated construction progress, major traffic impacts, and project milestones.

New 1300 East Bridge Over I-80

Following demolition of the existing bridge, the new 1300 East bridge over I-80 was slid into place and connected. The new bridge measures 175 feet long and 172 feet wide, with a 17-foot-wide trail on the east side and new sidewalk on the west side.
