Mountain View Corridor; 2100 North to Porter Rockwell Blvd
Completing a Critical Connection
The Utah Department of Transportation’s (UDOT) Mountain View Corridor project added 4 miles of new freeway between 2100 North and Porter Rockwell Boulevard, finally completing the missing roadway connection between Utah and Salt Lake counties and marking the corridor’s first freeway segment. Throughout design and construction, Horrocks led all public engagement activities, keeping the public informed on project updates.
Horrocks focused on communicating construction impacts, regional benefits, and future connectivity to surrounding roadways while keeping the public informed and engaged. A diverse group of stakeholders required regular updates throughout the project. This group included residents, commuters, and local governments, as well as sensitive government and military facilities.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Horrocks developed and implemented a strategic communications program focused on stakeholder coordination, construction communications, social media and digital outreach, and media support. Services included social media development and updates, website content, traffic alerts, stakeholder email updates, hotline and email management, city and elected official coordination, and outreach to nearby property owners, including Camp Williams and the National Security Agency.
Working closely with UDOT Communications, Horrocks created 115 educational and engaging social media posts and helped grow the Mountain View Corridor Facebook group to nearly 7,000 members. The team also planned and hosted a road-opening celebration attended by approximately 1,500 people, giving the community an opportunity to celebrate the new connection before it opened to traffic.
